Those are their numbers, linked and dated below. The spread exists because a per-foot rate hides storeys, access, corners and whether the controller sits inside the figure. Buzz Lighting publishes no rate yet, and quotes only after measuring on site.

Linear feet of covered roofline
Permanent lighting is not priced by the square foot of your house, by bedrooms, or by the lot. It is priced by the length of eave, rake and trim that will actually carry track. Gemstone Lights says the same on its own FAQ: cost is set by the linear feet needed and the local market rate for installing them.
Covered roofline is narrower than most people picture. It is the front eave, the garage return, the porch roof, the gable rakes if you want the peaks outlined, and each dormer — two short rake runs, an eave, four corners. It is not the perimeter of the building, and it is not whatever a satellite image suggests.
This is also why floor area is a poor proxy. A wide single-storey with a deep garage projection can carry more front roofline than a taller, narrower two-storey holding considerably more floor area. The house that feels bigger is regularly the cheaper roofline, and the reverse happens just as often.

What those numbers imply
Three calculations, each using figures cited above and nothing else. Redo them on your phone — that is the point of showing them.
Toronto Glow’s range assumes a house size it never states
Pair their low rate with their low total and $3,000 ÷ $20 per foot is 150 feet. Pair high with high and $6,000 ÷ $30 per foot is 200 feet. So the typical GTA home behind that range has a front elevation of roughly 150 to 200 feet. Useful if yours is.
The upper end of an average house breaks every published total
Celebright states the average home needs 150 to 300 linear feet. Take 300 feet at a mid-market $25 per foot and you get $7,500 — above every typical total published on this page. Nobody is lying. The totals assume the short end of the footage.
The same roofline, priced at both ends of the market
A 200-foot roofline at the lowest rate cited here ($18, Trimlight, a US page) is $3,600. The same 200 feet at the highest ($40, Light Right) is $8,000. Same house, more than double. That is what a per-foot number is worth before you know what it contains.
What moves the number
The adders nobody puts in the headline rate
A per-foot rate quietly assumes a house. These six things decide whether yours is that house.
Storeys and access
A bungalow eave reached off a six-foot ladder and a third-storey gable over a sloped side yard are the same linear foot on paper and a different job in practice. Access is labour, and labour is most of the invoice.
Corners, not length
Dormers, returns, stepped elevations and multi-gable fronts add corners. A straight 100-foot eave and a 100-foot front broken into nine runs are the same footage and nothing like the same day.
What is actually covered
Most published ranges, including the ones above, are front-elevation only. Adding the sides and the back is not a small percentage on top. Ask every quote which elevations its number covers before comparing it with anything.
Controller, transformer and power
Someone has to decide where the controller lives and how far it sits from a working outdoor circuit. On newer subdivision stock that is a small line. On an older Toronto or Etobicoke house with nothing usable at the eave, it is not.
Track profile and colour match
Channel colour-matched and depth-matched to your aluminium fascia costs more than a generic white extrusion, and it is the difference between a system you cannot see in July and one you can. It belongs on the quote as its own line.
What is in the way
Gutter guards, mature plantings against the wall, a fascia board gone soft at the end of a run, a roof with a history of ice damming at the eave. None of it is visible on a phone call, and every one of them changes the day.
What we will not tell you
We will not give you a Buzz Lighting price on this page. Not a range, not a starting point, not a per-foot rate with an asterisk. Our rate card is not finalised, and a number nobody has stood behind on a real roof exists only to end a conversation.
We will also not give you your figure over the phone. The three variables that move it most are the true length of covered roofline, what your fascia is made of and whether it is sound, and how a crew reaches the high runs. None of the three survives a phone call. An installer who commits to a firm number without seeing the house has either padded it heavily or is about to revise it in your driveway.
What you get instead is a free on-site measure, the covered footage written down, and a fixed written price for that footage. When our rates are settled they appear on the pricing page in full, and this page will link to them rather than repeat them.

How much do permanent Christmas lights cost in Canada?
The figures published by the Canadian market sit roughly between $20 and $40 per linear foot of covered roofline, and between $3,000 and $6,500 for a professionally installed front elevation. What does a per-linear-foot price actually include?
That is the question the unit hides, and a manufacturer says so out loud. Trimlight states on its own pricing page that the controller and the installation cost may or may not be rolled into the per-foot price. Light Right states that its figure is all in. So a $22 per foot quote and a $34 per foot quote can land at the same total, or be two different offers. Make each quote state what its per-foot number contains, and whether HST is inside it.
Why will Buzz Lighting not put its own price on this page?
Because our rate card is not finalised, and a number nobody has stood behind on a real roof is a made-up number. An invented per-foot rate on a page called cost is a price representation, not a marketing flourish. When the rates are settled they will be published in full on our pricing page, with what they include.
Can you quote permanent lighting over the phone?
No, and neither can anyone else — a phone number is a guess wearing a suit. The three things that move the price most are the true length of covered roofline, what the fascia is and whether it is sound, and how the crew reaches the high runs. None survives a phone call. What we will do on the phone is say which way each is likely to push your number.
Is my house near the average the published ranges assume?
Check the arithmetic rather than trusting the adjective. Celebright states the average home needs 150 to 300 linear feet, which is a two-fold spread hiding inside one word. If your front elevation sits at the long end, the totals published across this market were never describing your house.
Does the price include takedown, storage or an annual charge?
A permanent system has no annual install and takedown line, which is the structural difference between it and seasonal Christmas lighting. It does use electricity, so it has a running cost. We will not put a monthly figure on that here: an honest one needs a manufacturer stated wattage and a current Ontario Energy Board rate, and we are not guessing at either.
When should I have the roofline measured?
Before the snow, and ideally before the Christmas crunch. The GTA installation calendar tightens from Canadian Thanksgiving on 12 October 2026 onward, and a measure is more accurate on a dry roof in September than on an icy one in December. Permanent lighting installs year-round; it is the measure and the queue that prefer autumn.
